CityBus to Host "Office Hours"

CityBus will host Office Hours on the Purdue Campus to discuss the bus sytem with customers. Purdue students, faculty, staff, and all other CityBus riders are invited to come and share your ideas, make suggestions, or ask questions of CityBus managers.

During the event, CityBus will host public metings to discuss possible changes to route 5 Happy Hollow. Route 5 riders will have the chance to review the changes and share comments. (See the Proposed Changes to Route 5.)

Office Hours With CityBus
will take place on Monday, December 15, from 10AM to 6:30PM, in room 206 of Stewart Center. Public meetings regarding the possible changes to route 5 will take place in the same location at 10AM, 2PM, and 5:30PM.

3A Detour Expiring

A bus detour on route 3A Lafayette Square, which has been in effect for several months, will expire on Monday morning. The bus route is detouring due to the closure of State St. and Earl Ave. These streets are now open. However, CityBus will continue operating the detour through Sunday in order to allow time for passengers to become aware of the change.

Beginning on Monday, November 24, the bus will follow its regular route. The outbound bus will follow State St., 26th St., and Teal Rd. to 18th St. The inbound bus will follow Teal Rd., 22nd St., and State St. to 18th St.

Thanksgiving Schedule

CityBus will not operate on Thursday, November 27 due to Thanksgiving holiday.

Purdue Campus Loop routes will not operate from 6PM Tuesday, November 25, through the weekend, including evening and night buses. Campus Loop service will resume on Monday, December 1.

Regular route and trolley riders should be aware that when Purdue classes are not held, as will be the case on Wednesday, November 26 and Friday, November 28, the following changes occur:
  1. Route 4B Purdue West/Downtown detours through Purdue Village when inbound. There is no inbound service on State St. between Airport Rd. and S. Martin Jischke Dr.
  2. 5 Happy Hollow service is reduced to one bus operating on a 60 minute frequency from 9:30AM to 4:00PM.
  3. Route 8 Klondike Express does not operate on days when classes are not held.
  4. The Wabash Trolley Line follows the Black Line route. S. River Rd., Williams, and S. Grant will not be served.

CityBus Employees Recognized for Safety, Excellence

CityBus driver William “Buddy” Silver has been driving for 30 years without an accident. Judith Sadler’s record of accident-free driving is 25 years, and JoeMcDowell’s record is 23 years. Silver, Sadler, McDowell and dozens of other CityBus drivers were recognized for their safe driving records at a banquet hosted by CityBus on Sunday, Nov. 9 at The Trails in West Lafayette.

“The annual Safety Banquet recognizes and rewards our employees for their outstanding performance,” said Martin Sennett, General Manager. “When you consider the number of miles our bus drivers and mechanics drive on a daily basis, it is commendable to have so many employees with accident-free records.”

CityBus drivers log a cumulative 1.6 million miles annually.

Two employees were recognized with special awards. Bus operator Troy Moffitt was awarded the 2008 Dallas Vice Award, which recognizes leadership, safety, attitude, and customer service. The award is named for Dallas Vice, Jr., a well-known and beloved CityBus driver who died in 1998.

Dung “Lambo” Lam, who works in Utility, received the first annual Jim Schnebly Award, which recognizes excellence in the maintenance and facilities division of CityBus. The award is named for Schnebly, the Assistant Manager of Maintenance who retired last month after 37 years of service.

CityBus employees were not the only stars of the banquet. The Clayton Miller Band entertained after the awards ceremony. Band member Larry Miller is a bus driver for CityBus. Clayton, Cole and LD, other members of the band, are his sons. The band received national acclaim in August 2006 when Cole and LD placed second in NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” reality show.

CityBus operates a fleet of 73, including four hybrid busses. It logged nearly 4.7 million passenger trips in 2007, including more than 340,000 on the downtown/Purdue trolley. Its mission is to be a proactive community partner, striving to improve the community’s quality of life by operating safe, reliable and environmentally friendly transit services, by partnering in local economic development activities, and by providing excellent customer service and efficient, convenient access to destinations throughout Lafayette and West Lafayette.
